Safety first

What to do if your roof is leaking.

If water is coming in, stay calm, protect people first and avoid risky inspections.

First steps from inside the home.

Do not climb onto the roof. Take photos only from a safe place such as ground level or a window.
  1. Move belongings away from the leak if safe.
  2. Use a bucket or towel to contain drips.
  3. Avoid lights, sockets and electrical fittings near water.
  4. Look for visible missing tiles, slipped slates or chimney leaks from a safe place.
  5. Contact a roofer with your town, roof type and photos if available.

What a roofer will check

Common checks include tiles or slates, valleys, lead flashing, chimneys, ridge details, gutters, loft damp and safe access.
